Describe the work your company carries out

Donald Insall Associates is an award-winning architectural practice and historic buildings consultancy specialising in the care, repair and adaptation of historic buildings, as well as designing new buildings for sensitive sites. For over 60 years, we have pioneered a pragmatic and creative approach to managing change in the historic environment.

Our work is underpinned by rigorous analysis of the built environment to understand its value and significance. We place a high value on specialist knowledge and our members have comprehensive knowledge of traditional building and conservation repair techniques. While we see every project as unique, our aim is always conservation, which means balancing the preservation of a building or place with the need for intervention to ensure its continued vitality.

We are distinguished by the expertise of our analysis and advice: our contribution to the process of managing change in the historic environment is authoritative and respected by local authorities, Historic England and other stakeholders. Our work has been recognised with over 200 awards, including the RIBA, Civic Trust and Europa Nostra awards. Donald Insall Associates is a 100% employee-owned practice, consisting of over 120 members across eight UK offices.
