r e v i e w 29 welcome to hespr the IHBC’s Historic Environment Service Providers ReCognition (HESPR) programme is a recognition and promotional scheme for companies and practices active in the historic environment. It was launched at the 2008 IHBC Annual School in Guildford and has made a very positive start. The scheme aims to provide a one-stop shop for anyone seeking specialist conservation services. Clients benefit from the knowledge that they are using a practice that protects its service standard through a lead professional working in line with the IHBC’s expectations. Local authorities, amenity groups and conservation bodies are encouraged to refer enquiries to HESPR. Recognised companies are promoted through a web-based searchable service which provides an individual entry for each recognised company with full contact details and a link to the company’s website. The list of HESPR companies is also published annually in the IHBC Yearbook . The rates for inclusion are based on a sliding scale of company size. Recognition under HESPR allows the IHBC to acknowledge and advertise a company’s service standard to the public at large and, in particular, to prospective customers. The IHBC can promote recognised companies under HESPR because it will have received from one of our Full Members, an employee of the company, an endorsement of its operations and service standards. The Full Member who makes that statement is called the Designated Service Advisor (DSA), and they provide a formal link between the company, its operations and the IHBC. The Designated Further information, including how to apply for recognition under the scheme can be found via the IHBC website or at www.hespr.ihbc.co.uk . Service Advisor provides the quality assurance for the HESPR scheme. Recognised companies may refer to themselves as ‘a recognised historic environment service provider’. They may also use the HESPR logo. The articles which follow have been contributed by some of the first companies to be recognised through the scheme. These themed features demonstrate both the scope of HESPR companies and the valuable resource that HESPR offers prospective clients.
