Salary circa £29,000
 
With an extensive portfolio of historic Church buildings and supported by Cadw and the Heritage Lottery Fund, we are embarking on an exciting project to work collaboratively with communities and other stakeholders in caring for church buildings.
 
This is a new position within our Property Services Department initially for three years.  It is a unique and challenging opportunity for an enthusiastic and imaginative professional who has the talent, initiative and drive to inspire communities caring for our church heritage of the future.
 
To be successful in this position you will:-

be an experienced professional within the built heritage environment
have a wealth of knowledge on the issues affecting the conservation of historic buildings;

be able to enthuse others in their vision for the long term sustainable future of historic buildings;

be experienced in developing technical guidance and support material to help others to care for their places of worship;

be experienced in developing and delivering training in the field of conservation and project management.

Conservation Officer

Bedford Borough features a wealth of rural villages set around the urban areas of Bedford and Kempston. The rural areas are characterised by timber framed and stone buildings, many with thatched roofs, whilst the urban areas have a rich variety of late 18th and 19th century buildings.
The Council has a strong commitment to the protection of its 27 conservation areas and over 1300 listed buildings.

We require a Conservation Officer on a part time basis (30 hours per week) to provide specialist advice on conservation areas and historic buildings and general design issues to inform and improve the development
management process. The work will also involve conservation area appraisal, policy development and management of grant schemes. You will be expected to adopt a pro-active approach to heritage issues that is
compatible with the Council’s “can do” culture.

You should have a degree or diploma in building conservation, architecture, urban design or a related subject along with previous relevant experience. You should be able to demonstrate an up to date knowledge of planning legislation and areas of government guidance relating to the historic environment as well as a thorough knowledge of historic building construction and design.

We are passionate about historic and listed buildings and the stories they tell. Our practice is dedicated to continuing their relevance to their owners'/occupiers' contemporary needs whilst maintaining their historic integrity. Our busy portfolio includes an exciting range of important private and public historic buildings in East Anglia.

The role is to run projects from inception to completion and will include liaising with clients, producing imaginative designs and construction information, negotiating with public authorities and contractors, letting and administration of contracts and bringing projects to a successful conclusion.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a broad range of experience with works to timber framed listed buildings within a conservation practice. Proficiency in the preparation and production of working drawings and specifications and contract administration is essential. He/she will be a Chartered Architect and candidates with additional conservation qualifications will be preferred.

We work in a beautiful converted barn in a rural setting near Saffron Walden. We operate within a 50 mile radius and candidates must possess their own cars to enable them to access our office and visit clients and sites. Business mileage will be reimbursed.

East Suffolk Mind and The Churches Conservation Trust

Project Manager @ £29,000 pa Fixed term for 18 months

East Suffolk Mind and The Churches Conservation Trust have been working togethersince 2008 to develop a long term sustainable future for St Mary at Quay as a well being centre.

The project has secured funding from the HLF to develop a Stage 2 Bid which will create a sustainable wellbeing centre set in a vibrant area of regeneration. It will inspire learning for all through heritage and secure one of the finest local historic churches, whilst housing a range of contemporary services for the community.

Key tasks will include:helping East Suffolk Mind and the Churches Conservation Trust, to deliver this exciting and challenging bid;  managing the delivery of theStage 2 Heritage Lottery Fund bid, in consultation with the East Suffolk Mind, the Churches Conservation Trust, the professional team and the other project advisors; co-ordinating the Stage 2 bid; identifying match funding and writing funding bids; liaising with the local community and ensure their views are represented and
reflected in the project and bid documents through consultation.

We are looking to appoint an individual or organisation to undertake this work who can demonstrate experience in similar roles, preferably working within the historic environment and with the Heritage Lottery Fund.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to be part of a significant development project in Ipswich. We are looking for an individual or company with the drive and determination to push forward a project where the key focus will be upon promoting positive mental health and well being in a unique environment.

We expect that the person / organisation appointed will need to split their time equally between London and Ipswich.
