Caring for Patients: any
parallel between medicine and heritage science?
Dr Jan Wouters Conservation Scientist - Consultant, Belgium
11 March 2010 Gavin de Beer Lecture Theatre ,UCL |
In caring for a human patient, critical
interventions to improve quality of life or prolong life will occur perhaps
once or twice in a lifetime. This is the most important difference to caring
for heritage. Cultural and artistic objects, with potential lifetimes of
centuries and millennia, will normally show several phases of life when an
intervention is necessary to save the object for future generations.
