About our website
Welcome to the new website of the
Institute of Historic Building Conservation.
The
previous site worked well for five years but, having expanded as the
Institute developed, the old theme was becoming ungainly.
The
new site complements the new logo and thematic design of the Institute.
Technically, it provides access to the ever expanding work of the
Institute in as accessible a way as possible.
The
major change is the navigation on the left. The site now has
approximately 18,000 pages (including the Context Archive) and
navigation was getting difficult. The format was developed by the
Institute's Director, Dr Seán O'Reilly, in an attempt to make the vast
amount of information on the site accessible from one place. It might
appear daunting at first, but click around it and you will soon
discover parts of the site you never knew existed. You click on the
main title headings to expand the options below, you can then click on
the plus signs to expand to another level, or minus to contract. An
exploded view of the site's organisation is available by clicking 'Site
map' from the 'Search' button on the left. Shorthand addresses to
popular areas on the site are also listed on the 'Site Map' page.
I
hope you enjoy the new site; constructive suggestions are always
welcome.
