BUILT HERITAGE, SUSTAINABILITY AND PLANNING
Tuesday 27 March 2012 , 09:30 - 16:30
The Athenaeum, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Reconciling the principles of sustainability and sustainable development with the need to protect and enhance the historic environment is a key challenge for all the environmental professions, but particularly for planners and conservation professionals. This one day training event will bring together practitioners from across the built heritage spectrum and from both the private and public sectors. The government’s proposals, as contained for instance in the National Planning Policy Framework appear to place an overall priority on the concept of sustainable development and sustainability. Speakers at this event will examine the implications of this and other policy initiatives for the historic environment. They will also show how the principles of sustainability and sustainable construction underlie most historic buildings and that they are inherently sustainable structures that can more often than not be adapted to meet the sustainability agenda without losing their character…and of course there’s always the question of what to do about wind turbines!
FEE: £90+VAT (including refreshments and lunch)
CONTACT: Tina Jessup, RTPI East of England, PO Box 708, BURY ST EDMUNDS, IP31 2XP
